The aim of this project is to create an institute of research and capacity building, which supports Forever Sabah’s various projects and initiatives.
The institute shall be divided into two concurrent and inter-related programmes (wings):
- A “research” focus wing that brings together both conventional scientific research and research processes that document or foster the retention of traditional knowledge and inculcates both these evidence bases through our decision making systems
- A wing designed to disseminate and utilise this knowledge by turning FS projects into centres for vocational learning.
Significant knowledge gaps exist concerning the impacts of current Governmental and Economic decisions on the sustainability of Sabah. Forever Sabah must have access to quality, up-to-date information if its actions are to have a sustained, positive impact in the state. The FSI is working to bring together research, education and vocational training bodies from across the state to form a network of collaboration that can effectively deliver this vital service. Members of this budding network include the Community Based Ecotourism School (CBETS), the Centre for Renewable Energy and Appropriate technology (CREATE), PACOS’s community learning centres (CLC), and the Southeast Asia Rainforest Research Programme (SEARRP).
